Jamaica MIssions - Day 7

Last day here and we are all packed and ready to go. Our flight leaves Jamaica at 2pm local time and we are scheduled to arrive in Philly around 7.  We are flying home with another church we met from Lancaster and are so excited about the friendships we made. We will update the blog when we arrive there.

Jamaica Missions - Day 6

The last day of our trip was pretty cool. We spent the morning at the Straw market and followed up with the afternoon at the beach. We rented a glass bottom boat and took a snorkeling trip out to the reef. It was amazing seeing God's handiwork in the Ocean and swimming with the fish.

Jamaica Missions - Day 5

Today was our last day at the work site, with CBS and at Blossom Garden Orphanage. We finished up work on the foundation we started earlier this week, dug a trench to lay a gas line, and started work on widening a sidewalk going in to the Jamaica Christian School for the Deaf to name a few projects. A small group of us made a trip over to the orphanage to love on some babies, toddlers and school age children. It is amazing to see a smile on a child's face as a result of simply a touch. CBS went well and many of the children were sad we were heading home tomorrow but we left them with the hope that they are not alone because Jesus is in fact with them :-)

Tomorrow is a down-time kind of day. We will be heading to the straw market in the morning, then making a trip over to the beach for an afternoon of ocean trampolines, snorkeling and just plain old sifting through the sand for sea shells. We are so excited for this opportunity to process our experiences, yet a little sad to be leaving such an amazing place.

We have learned a lot here as a group. The most important thing we learned is that the mission field does not stop here. We are called to bring the love of Christ to others every where we go and that is what we intend to do. We are forever changed!

Enjoy the photos and God Bless!

Jamaica Missions - Day 4

Day 4 of our missions trip was yesterday and it is safe to say it was the most difficult day of the trip. We were all physically and emotionally exhausted yet God worked in so many amazing ways. The only way I can sum up our day yesterday is in these two pictures. We all worked very hard for the Lord and he showed His gracious smile to us in the most amazing sunset. Thank you so much for all of your prayers. God is good all the time!

Jamaica Missions - Day 3

Today we broke the group up in to three groups. One group went to Blossom Garden orphanage to spend the day caring for children ranging in age from newborn to seven years old. The other two groups started the day with moving cinder block and, you guessed it, more cement. We are making great progress on pouring the outside parts of the footer for the vocational school. We will be continuing this task for the rest of the week. After a short lunch, a group of us went down to the local church to help out with CBS. There were about 30 or so kids there and it was very cool to see their excitement when listening to the bible stories, worshipping, playing games and making crafts. Here are a few highlights from the day in pictures.

Jamaica Missions - Day 2

We have had an amazing Day 2 here in Eden, Jamaica. We spent the majority of the day working at the Jamaica Christian School for the Deaf. A group of us canvased the local neighborhood inviting children to the VBS that will take place tomorrow.

In addition to VBS prep work, there was a lot of cement mixing, carrying and helping to pour footers for a trade school that is being built to help train the students on vocational trades to ready them for the workforce after school.

Tomorrow, we will be heading back to Eden to work at the school continuing to pour cement and whatever else needs done. VBS starts tomorrow and we anticipate many kids from the community and are so excited to see their smiling faces. A small group will also be heading to the orphanage to care for babies and children to help ease the burden on the orphanage workers.

Here are some pictures from today. They don't do justice to all of the GOD THINGS that are happening. We can't wait to share them all with you.

Mission Jamaica

Trip Destination: Eden, Jamaica. Eden is a small village set back in the hills and rainforests of Jamaica.

Missions Partner: Mission Discovery

Our Mission: In this tiny town, the Jamaican Christian School for the Deaf ministers to hearing impaired and special needs children whose families could not otherwise afford such excellent attention and care. Mission Discovery teams spend a week staying at and serving the school. The children will be on summer break allowing our team to make needed repairs such as building new dorms and classrooms, creating safe play areas for the children, or building perimeter fences in preparation for the coming school year. Our team will also lead a children’s bible school in the community of Eden and spend a day at Blossom Garden Children’s Home, an orphanage for more than 70 children. Along with the hard work, you will spend an exciting day shopping at the Straw Market and relaxing at one of the island’s magnificent beaches.

A General Day: After breakfast and quiet time, teams will move to the JCSD construction site where they will work on projects until noon. After lunch, teams will walk to a local church for Children’s Bible School (CBS). Our group will share the gospel through games, songs, testimonies, Bible stories, crafts, and relationship building. Teams should plan for 50 to 70 children from prekindergarten to early teens. Temperatures at the site can be 95 degrees or higher, so steps are taken to ensure that everyone gets the proper amount of water. After a full day of work, the team will have some free time followed by dinner, large group meeting, and a small group debriefing time.

Getting Ready...

The team has been finalized and 22 students and parents will being heading to Jamaica this summer! Our mission will be to support the efforts of a few missionaries located in Eden, Jamaica and help with a local school for the deaf. Half our time will be spent on construction and the other half with the local kids.

Right now the team is preparing support letters and brainstorming fund raising ideas. I know this will have to be a God thing for the cost of the trip can be overwhelming. It will take a group effort. But the cost is nothing compared to what will be accomplished!
